Williamsburg picks up a sweep on the road against Clay County

MANCHESTER — After posting a 2-2 record in their own tournament this past weekend, Dirk Berta’s Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets evened their season mark at 4-4 with an impressive road sweep of Clay County on Monday.

Williamsburg took the match in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-4.

The Lady Jackets set the tone early, cruising to a 25-14 win in the opening set with strong serves and efficient play at the net. They kept their momentum rolling in the second, pulling away late for a 25-17 victory. Williamsburg left no doubt in the third, dominating from start to finish with a decisive 25-4 performance to seal the sweep.

Coach Berta credited his team’s balanced attack and success in the freshman, jayvee, and varsity matchups.

“We had a great performance from all three of our teams tonight,” he said. “Great effort from everyone on the court. It will take another great effort tomorrow. We were able to sustain serving runs and play quality defense tonight as well as quality offense. Our team was focused and able to use this game as an opportunity to get better. We are looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow. As always, Go Jackets.”

With the victory, the Lady Jackets move to 4-4 on the year and will look to build on Monday’s effort with a 50th District matchup scheduled for Tuesday against Corbin.
