LONDON — Whitley County’s overcame another slow start to improve to 5-0 with a 3-1 victory over North Laurel, Monday.
The Lady Jaguars won the first set, 25-22, before the Lady Colonels won the next three sets, 25-12, 25-8, and 25-12.
“Obviously, we once again got off to a slow start and played poorly the first set,” WhitleyCounty coach David Halcomb said.“It’s a concern, but not time to panic about it. We’ve really not started a match well to this point. I’ll figure out a way to play better out of the gate and we will do some things different tomorrow night.
“We couldn’t overcome nine service errors the first set — just couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm offensively or defensively and was out of sort,” he added. “The girls got it together and played much better the rest of the match, executing what we wanted to do. The fact is, we are 5-0 after the first week of the season, beaten some good teams in the process and still have so much room to improve. I love this team and we have a wonderful group of girls who work hard every day. I’m looking forward to our first home match tomorrow as we take on a good South Laurel team.”
