Redhounds hold off Linton-Stanton with 42-20 win

CORBIN — It wasn’t easy, but a win is a win.

Luke Salmons fought back from a 14-7 first half deficit to knock off Indiana’s Linton-Stockton High School, 42-20, on Saturday. 

The Redhounds received a three touchdown effort from Cole Stevens while Can Estep added a kick-off return for a score and a rushing touchdown. Mason Salmons scored late in the game to put finishing touches in the win.

Linton-Stockton took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter just two minutes into the game. Corbin responded with Estep returning the ensuing kick-off 75 yards for a score, cutting its deficit to 8-7.

Linton-Stockton pushed its lead to 14-7 with seven minutes in the first quarter with a touchdown, but Estep’s 13-yard rushing touchdown tied the game at 14 apiece with 2:29 left in the first quarter.

Stevens added touchdown runs of five and 15 yards in the second quarter, giving the Redhounds a 28-14 edge at halftime.

His seven-yard touchdown run with 7:20remaining in the third quarter pushed Corbin’s advantage to 35-14.

Linton-Stanton cut its deficit to 35-20 with 8:29 remaining in the fourth quarter but Mason Salmons’ one-yard run secured the win for Corbin.
