Colonels back on top of the 50th District with win over Corbin

LONDON — Whitley County might have had only four hits, but they made each of them count in a big way during Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Corbin in the finals of the 50th District Baseball Tournament.

The Colonels (25-6) also took advantage of three Redhounds errors that led to two runs while Christian Wilson and EJ Allen were dominant on the mound.

Wilson tossed six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters. Allen allowed one hit in the seventh inning before shutting down the Redhounds’ offensive attack.

“Very proud of our team,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “We had really good energy. We pitched it well and played really good defense. That is who we are. We were able to manufacture enough runs by being aggressive on the bases. Love this team. Go Colonels.”

Corbin held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the second before Whitley County regained a 3-2 advantage heading into the third inning.

The Colonels added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Kip Allen turned in a 2-for-3 effort at the plate for Whitley County while scoring once. Spencer Bargo finished with a hit, and an RBI while Dee Parker had a hit, and two runs scored. Ronald Osborne drove in a run while EJ Allen scored once.
