LONDON — Carly Mink’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals out on another dominant effort again Corbin (13-14) on during Wednesday’s 50th District Fastpitch Tournament title game.
The Lady Cardinals (26-5) defeated the Lady Redhounds for the third time this season, cruising to a 9-0 victory behind a one-hit effort from Kenzie Williams in the pitcher’s circle.
Williams was dominant, giving up a hit to Alana Stidham while striking out 10 batters.
South Laurel’s bats were just as efficient, delivering 12 hits, including two home runs.
Ryleigh Bretz turned in a perfect 4-for-4 effort, which included a home run, two doubles, four RBI, and one run scored. Bailey Frazier went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and two runs scored while Morgan Jackson connected with a home run, finishing with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Williams had a hit and an RBI while Addison Baker and Audrey Likins both finished with a hit and a run scored apiece.
“We’ve got a group that really understands the importance of being prepared to play,” Mink said. “It was big to get ahead early in the game and being able to extend that lead a little a time.
“Defensively, we made some big plays behind Kenzie that really changed the momentum of some innings,” she added. “Kenzie was really good tonight and did a great job limiting a good lineup. It’s big for our program to win the district championship, and it’s big for our community that is hurting right now. We’re just going to focus on getting better and be ready to go Monday.”
Danni Foley took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. She struck out five batters. Apple Terrell pitched an inning, allowing three hits and three earned runs.
