Redhounds moving on, knock off South Laurel, 4-1

LONDON — Corbin (17-16) built a 4-0 lead and never looked back, eliminating South Laurel during Monday’s 50th District Baseball District Tournament semifinal action with a 4-1 win.

The Cardinals (21-7) entered the matchup with hopes of advancing to its first 50th District title game since 2017, but never had an answer for Redhound pitcher Kade Elam, who tossed a gem, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters.

“We get to play again tomorrow with this group, that’s always a good day,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Kade was lights out from the get go and we backed him up tonight. Cam got us started with his first at-bat, back from a few weeks off with injury and we carried that momentum the rest of the way.”

Cam Estep started things off with a home run in the second inning, finishing with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

Levi Brock delivered a hit and two RBI while Cooper McCauley had a hit and scored twice. Elam and Trey Person had a hit apiece while Clay Botner finished with a hit and a run scored.

Keaton Smith had a hit and an RBI for South Laurel while Reece Noble and Keaton Creech had a hit apiece.
