LONDON — It took eight innings but North Laurel did just enough to pull off a 5-4 win over Estill County on Monday.
Saige McClure’s sacrifice fly scored Lucy Jo Linville from third base to give the Lady Jaguars their 25th win of the season.
McClure was coming off a fantastic weekend effort that saw her break North Laurel’s career RBI record. She finished with a hit and three RBI against the Lady Engineers, and now has 216 RBI during her career.
“Another good win against a good Estill county team,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. @They have a first year coach this season but they have Coach Shirley Beard helping again this season. She is a hall of famer and this team plays a lot like some of her really good teams did.
“Offensively, we had a bunch of runners on again tonight but didn’t get all the runners in that we had a chance to,” he added. “I thought a couple of times we were gonna bust the game open. Credit Estill and their pitcher for keeping us off balance. Multiple hits from Ellie Adams and Bella Finley. Several extra base hits and another home run from Emma.”
Emma Carl once again swung a hot bat, hitting her fifth home run in the past three games while raising her season total to a team-best 12. She went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI, and two runs scored. Bella Finley turned in a 4-for-4 effort while Katie Sams had a hit, and a run scored. Morgan Edwards and Kylee Lewis both finished with a hit apiece.
Carl got the win, coming in relief of Tessa Monhollen in the sixth inning. Carl tossed three innings and got the win, allowing no runs, and no hits while striking out seven batters. Monhollen tossed five innings, allowing three hits, and three earned runs while striking out six batters.
“Pitching wise, another good night from both Tessa and Emma,” Edwards said. “Those two compliment each other so well. Only gave up three hits. Both were really good tonight. Defensively we caught everything again tonight.
“Tonight was senior night and as always it was emotional,” he added. “That may have played into things a little bit but proud of my girls for fighting through the adversity and still getting the job done. Coming into the last few games of the season. Postseason right around the corner. Go Jags.”
