Corbin takes two from Somerset, wins 1-0, and 7-2

CORBIN — Cody Philpot’s Corbin Redhound picked up two much-needed wins on Monday, sweeping two games against Somerset, 1-0, and 7-1, respectively.

“Two big team wins for us,” Philpot said. “Finally got some balls to fall when we needed them. All the guys really competed tonight. Kade (Elam) and Will (Freeman) were both great on the mound for us.”

Game One

Corbin 1, Somerset 0

The Redhounds scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning, defeating Somerset, 1-0.

Ethan Abner and Clay Botner both finished with two hits apiece while Trey Person had one hit.

Abner got the win, lasting 3.1 innings while allowing only three hits and striking out four batters. Will Freeman pitched 0.2 innings of hitless and scoreless ball with two strikeouts while Kade Elam got the save, allowing four hits and striking out three batters in three innings of work. 

Game Two

Corbin 7, Somerset 1

Lucas Tarvin and Noah Cima both came up huge at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, and two runs scored apiece as the Redhounds (16-14) pulled off two huge wins.

Clay Botner added two hits, and two RBI while Kade Elam had two hits and a run scored. Trey Person finished with a hit and a run scored while Levi Brock had a hit.

Will Freeman got the win, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters.
