Six-run sixth inning leads to North Laurel’s 8-1 win over Corbin

LONDON — Corbin and North Laurel battled through five innings with the Lady Jaguars holding a slim 2-0 lead.

But the defending 13th Region champion Lady Jaguars put the game away with a six-run sixth inning to knock off the Lady Redhounds, 8-1.

The win improved North Laurel to 22-4 while Corbin saw its record drop to 9-12.

“Another good win for us tonight,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “Corbin is a really good team whose record is really deceiving. And with Danni in the circle, they are really good.

“Luckily for us, we got a few hits and moved some runners around and got ourselves in a good spot,” he added. “Eight hits on the night, multiple hits from Emma and Saige. Four of our hits tonight were for extra bases. We ran the bases really well tonight, too.”

The Lady Jaguars received another stellar pitching effort from Emma Carl, who picked up the win while tossing a complete game. She allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out 13 batters. Carl struck out eight batters in the first three innings.

“Emma threw a really good game tonight as well,” Edwards said. “Good velocity and good location. Another really good game from her and our defense was on point tonight.

“Quality team win tonight,” he added. “Big weekend coming up for us with the Jon Hooker Classic. Go Jags.”

Saige McClure scored the game’s first run in the fourth inning, thanks to a wild pitch, giving North Laurel a 1-0 lead. Reeselyn Garland scored on another passed ball in the fifth inning, pushing the Lady Jaguars a 2-0 advantage.

Bella Finley broke the game open with a two-run double in the sixth inning while Morgan Edwards scored a passes ball, and Katie Sams added a run-scoring single. McClure added a two-run single, wrapping up North Laurel’s win.

Raegan Walker led the Lady Redhounds with a hit and a run scored while Morgan Hicks and Chloe Bays delivered a hit apiece. Kaili Sanders drove in Corbin’s lone run.
