WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s held a slim 5-4 lead heading into the fifth inning during Tuesday’s matchup with Barbourville before pulling away.
The Lady Colonels (13-15) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning while adding five more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to record a 15-4 win over the Lady Tigers.
“It was a slow start for our girls tonight but they came alive and took care of business,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “Barbourville is a good hitting team and they put the ball in play. I’m proud of our girls.”
Hallie Huddleston came up huge at the plate with two triples, three RBI, and a run scored while Jayden Barton had two hits, three RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Payton Hurst finished with two hits, an RBI, and three runs scored while Caylee Singleton went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Morgan Huddleston delivered a run-scoring hit while Cambree Price had two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Mia Prewitt finished with a hit, an RBI, and three runs scored. Madilyn Rains finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.
Price tossed 2.1 innings, allowing two hits, and four earned runs while striking out four batters. Singleton pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing no runs or hits while striking out seven batters.
