WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County got back to its winning ways after an impressive pitching effort from Caylee Singleton.
Singleton tossed a complete game, limiting McCreary Central to four hits and only one run while striking out 11 batters during the Lady Colonels’ 11-1 win on Monday.
“I’m proud of the girls for hitting the ball tonight,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “I wish we would have strung together more hits later in the game. But we will get there. It’s always good to get a win on senior day. The seniors have worked hard their time here with us and we sure will miss them all.”
Whitley County started the game with five runs in the bottom of the first before adding two more runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
The Lady Raiders scored their lone run in the fourth inning before the Lady Colonels out the finishing touches on their win with a three-run sixth inning.
Payton Hurst led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort. She drove in four runs while scoring once. Madilyn Rains turned in a 3-for-3 effort with an RBI, and a run scored. Cambree Price had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Jaydnn Johnson and Singleton both had a hit and an RBI apiece while Madison Lunsford and Morgan Huddleston finished with a hit apiece. Hallie Huddleston scored two runs while Jayden Barton and Makenzie Carr scored one run apiece.
