Lady Cardinals clinch 50th District’s top seed, defeat Corbin, 6-0 

LONDON — South Laurel wrapped up the 50th District’s top seed thanks to Kenzie Williams’ one-hit shutout effort in the circle during the Lady Cardinals’ 6-0 win over Corbin.

The win turned out to be South Laurel’s seventh in a row as they improved to 18-4 overall, and 5-0 against district opponents. 

“It was a big district win for us,” South Laurel  ouch Carly Mink said. “Our goal early was to get the one seed. We have to continued to work everyday to get better and achieve that goal.”

The Lady Cardinals once again received another stellar effort at the plate.

South Laurel scored two runs in the first inning while adding two more in the third inning. Mink’s squad pushed across two more insurance runs last inning the game to secure the six-run win. 

Morgan Jackson finished with three hits while driving in two runs, and scoring once. Bailey Frazier set the table at the top of the order, turning in a perfect 3-for-3 effort while stealing three bases, and scoring twice. Williams had a hit and an RBI while Addison Baker finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Emmie Rice drove in a run in the win.

“Offensively, we’re just trying to put together good at bats with good swings,” Mink said. “We’re getting production from different parts of the lineup every night.”

Williams improved to 14-3 while pushing her strikeout total to 154.

“Kenzie turned in another great performance allowing only one hit and one base runner to a very good hitting team,” Mink said. “Defensively, we played very good behind her tonight.”

Danni Foley delivered Corbin’s lone hit while Apple Terrell took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, pitching six innings while allowing 10 hits and four earned runs. 

The loss dropped the Lady Redhounds to 8-11, and 3-2 against district opponents.
