Emmie Rice homers three times during South Laurel’s 20-5 win over Middlesboro

MIDDLESBORO — South Laurel sophomore Emmie Rice turned in one of her best efforts at the plate, delivering three homes runs while going 4-for-4 at the plate with six RBI, and three runs scored as the Lady Cardinals defeated Middlesboro, 20-5, on Tuesday.

Rice wasn’t the only South Laurel player to have a big game at the plate. Addison Baker went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while Ryleigh Bretz turned in a 3-for-4 effort along with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Kenzie Williams finished with two doubles, five RBI, and scored twice while Sadie Lewis went 3-for-3 with two RBI, and two runs scored. Skye Lawson added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored while Bailey Frazier and Morgan Jackson both scored two runs apiece. Audrey Likins finished with a hit in the win.

“Offensively, we did a lot of good things throughout the lineup,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Emmie had a big night with 3 home runs and a double, and Addie Baker also had a home run. Bretz, Lewis, Lawson, Williams, and Likins also connected with hits tonight.”

Likins tossed 2.2 innings, picking up the win while striking out two batters. Bailey Kilburn tossed 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and no runs.

“With any pitcher you have to play well defensively and we continue to emphasize that,” Mink said. “Audrey got the win and Bailey Kilburn got the save tonight. We’re going to continue to work on getting better each day.”
