CORBIN — Lynn Camp picked up a huge 51st District win on Friday, rallying from a 7-1 deficit, and a 10-9 deficit to knock off Barbourville, 13-10.
Emma Burnette and Julie Moore came through in the clutch when the Lady Wildcats needed them most.
Burnette delivered a grand slam while finishing with two hits, four RBI, and one run scored. Moore connected with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that sealed the win.
“I want to say how incredibly proud of my girls for getting tonight’s win,” Lynn Camp coach Nikki Hendrix said. “We were down six early in the game and instead of quitting they fought back. Even though I had two starters out because of injuries, Gabby Thomas and Molly Weierman really showed up and helped get the win.
“Gabby made some really great defensive plays at first base and Molly got a hit going to start a two out rally that helped us take the lead,” she added. “Emma Burnette had a hot bat, hitting a grand slam and was responsible for five runs. Julie Moore also connected on a three-run homer to secure the lead in the sixth. Several players in the lineup had multiple hits. Charity Steele played a great defensive game at third and Lily Henize stepped up to play shortstop and made some good stops as well. Julie finished the game strong on the mound. This was a total team effort, from the field and the dugout. Proud of these girls.”
Burnette’s grand slam put Lynn Camp ahead 8-7 at the end of the second inning. The Lady Wildcats added another run in the third inning to make the score, 9-7, before the Lady Tigers scored a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to reclaim a 10-9 edge.
Lynn Camp had one final rally in the sixth inning as Moore’s three-run homer gave her team a 12-10 advantage.
Moore sealed the win in the top of the seventh, retiring three of the four batters she faced.
She recorded a complete game, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out three batters. She finished at the plate with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored.
Lily Henize had three hits, and scored twice while Madison Weymers came up with a huge triple while driving in two runs, and scoring once.
