Baker’s dozen: South Laurel captures sixth win in a row while delivering win No. 13 in the process with 11-6 victory over Rockcastle County 

MOUNT VERNON — Trey Smith’s South Laurel Cardinals won their sixth game in a row while improving to 13-2 during the process after an 11-6 win over Rockcastle County on Friday.

The Cardinals got the job done at the plate and on the mound, scoring six runs in the first inning while Tyler Curry, and Keaton Creech combined to limit the Rockets to four hits, and three earned runs while striking out eight batters.

Seven different players connected with hits for the Cardinals along with seven different players drove in at least one run apiece in the win.

Will Alsip led the way at the plate with two hits, and three runs scored while Jamison West led South Laurel with two RBI.

The Cardinals led 6-0 but Rockcastle County had cut its deficit to 6-3 after three innings of play. South Laurel added a run in the fourth inning, and four more in the fifth inning to take a 11-3 advantage.

The Rockets pushed across three runs in the sixth inning but the damage had been done.
