Redhounds get revenge, as Cima and Elam silences Whitley County’s bats

CORBIN — The pitching duo of Cruz Cima and Kade Elam silenced Whitley County’s bats on Tuesday with Corbin evening its 50th District record at 1-1 after a 6-1 victory over the Colonels.

Whitley County won the first contest between the two teams on Monday, but managed only seven hits against Cima and Elam.

Cima started the game and got the win, tossing four innings while allowing six hits, and one earned run. He finished with two strikeouts. Elam turned in three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out two batters.

“I’m proud of how our guys responded tonight,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Cruz and Kade threw great for us and we were able to get the big hits and execution when we needed it tonight to score a few runs.”

Corbin (9-7, 1-1) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, and trailed into the third inning when the Redhounds pushed across a run to tie the game at one apiece.

Corbin added two more runs in the fourth inning before scoring three insurance runs in the fifth inning.

Cam Estep led the Redhounds with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored while Jaden Broughton finished with a hit, and two RBI. Ethan Abner finished with a hit and an RBI while Cooper McCauley and Ty Person each had a hit, and scored once apiece. Clay Botner drove in a run while Elam scored twice.

Ethan Allen and Kip Allen both had two hits apiece while Ronald Osborne had a hit, and an RBI. Henry Bowling finished with a hit, and a run scored.

Kip Allen took the loss for the Colonels, going 3.1 innings while giving up three hits, and three earned runs. He also struck out four batters. Trey Walton tossed an inning, allowing two hits, and three earned runs while striking out a batter. EJ Allen pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up only a hit while striking out a batter.
