WILLIAMSBURG — South Laurel moved into sole possession of first place in the 50th District after sweeping a two-game series with Williamsburg on Tuesday thanks to a 21-2 win.
The Cardinals (11-2, 2-0) outscored the Yellow Jackets (1-10, 0-2), 34-3, during the two games.
South Laurel took control of the game with a nine-run first inning while adding four runs in the second inning, one run in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning.
Will Alsip continues his impressive season in the mound, securing the win while allowing two hits and one earned run. He finished with eight strikeouts in four innings of the work. Jackson Catching tossed a scoreless and hitless fifth inning, finishing with one strikeout.
Waylon Hensley remained red-hot at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a triple, double, five RBI, and three runs scored while Austin Byrd was 2-for-2 with two RBI, and a run scored. Keaton Creech finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and three runs scored while Alsip had a hit, and two RBI. Catching finished with a hit, an RBI, and four runs scored while Keaton Smith delivered a hit, an RBI, and one run scored. Jamison West had a hit while Vince Sizemore and Wilkelver Gaviria-Zuleta both drove in a run apiece. Reece Noble delivered a hit, and two RBI, scoring twice while Isaac Alsip finished with an RBI. Kamdin Dewees, Mason Boggs, and Bryson Turner each scored two runs apiece.
