LONDON — Trey Smith’s South Laurel Cardinals started 50th District play off on the right foot with a convincing 13-1 win over Williamsburg while capturing their 10th win during the process.
Waylon Henson got the win on the mound, tossing five inning while allowing four hits and no earned runs, and finishing with 10 Ks.
Hensley also came through at the plate, delivering two hits, and two RBI while Will Alsip finished with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Jack Vaughn, Austin Byrd, Keaton Creech, and Bryson Turner each drove in a run apiece.
“Any time you can get a district win, it’s a good thing,” South Laurel coach Trey Smith said. “I thought we came out and did a good job and got the win.
“Waylon pitched a really good game for us, and we played well defensively,” he added. “We also had some good timely hits when we got players on base.”
South Laurel scored four runs in the first inning while adding four more runs in the second inning. The Cardinals put the game away with five more insurance runs.
