WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County is beginning to pick up some tracking after capturing another win on Tuesday.
The Lady Colonels (5-9) have scored 37 runs during their past two games, which includes Tuesday’s 19-4 rout of Barbourville.
“The girls are seeing the ball well right now,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “We had some defensive miscues that we need to clean up but if our pitchers continue to hit spots and our offense keeps putting up runs these girls are going to do big things.”
After a scoreless first inning, Whitley County exploded for 10 runs in the second inning while adding another run in the third inning to take an 11-0 edge.
The Lady Tigers pushed across four runs in the top of the fourth inning before the Lady Colonels put the game away with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Caylee Singleton picked up the win, limiting Barbourville to one hit of four innings of work. She didn’t allow an earned run and struck out nine batters.
Offensively, Whitley County was led by Morgan Hiddleston’s 2-for-3 effort which included a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored. Payton Hurst delivered two hits, an RBI, and scored three times while Singleton finished with two hits, and an RBI. Katelyn Shepherd collected a hit, two RBI, and a run scored while Mia Prewitt finished with an RBI, and a run scored. Jadynn Johnson finished with a hit and scored once while Cambree Price connected with a hit, and delivered two RBI, and two runs scored. Hallie Huddleston had an RBI, and scored twice while Madison Lunsford, Madilyn Rains, Adalee Johnson, and Jayden Barton scored a run apiece.
