Lady Colonels use 14-run first inning to cruise past Williamsburg 

WILLIAMSBURG — A 14-run first inning was all Whitley County needed to capture its first win in 50th District okay while snapping a five-game losing skid during the process.

The Lady Colonels (4-9) only needed two and a half innings to defeat Williamsburg, 18-1, on Monday.

“I’m proud of the girls tonight,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “It was a total team effort offensively and defensively.”

Morgan Huddleston connected with a three-run homer, finishing with two hits, four RBI, and two runs scored while Cambree Price was 3-for-3 with two RBI, and three runs scored. Freshman Madison Lunsford was also 3-for-3 with four RBI, and one run scored while Payton Hurst was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Hallie Huddleston finished with a hit, two RBI, and three runs scored while Mia Prewitt finished with a hit, and two runs scored. Caylee Singleton connected with a hit and drove in two runs while Adalee Johnson was 1-for-1. Madilyn Rains contributed a hit and an RBI while Jadynn Johnson finished with a hit and a run scored. 

Singleton got the win, tossing an inning while striking out two batters. She didn’t give up a hit or an earned run. Adalee Johnson pitched two scoreless and hitless innings, striking out three batters.

Brooklyn Taylor drove in a run for the Lady Yellow Jackets (0-8) while Kyli Monhollen suffered the loss, allowing 16 hits and seven earned runs while striking out two batters.
