CORBIN — Crystal Stidham’s Corbin Redhounds evened their record at 1-1 after picking up an impressive 3-2 win over Rockcastle County on Monday.
The game was scoreless for four innings until the Lady Rockets scored two runs to take a 2-0 edge in the fifth inning.
Corbin tied the game at two apiece in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run homer by Danni Foley while Mikaila Hopkins’ run-scoring hit in the bottom of the seventh drove in Makenna Wilson to give the Lady Redhounds a one-run win.
“I am so proud of my Lady Redhounds tonight,” Stidham said. “This was a complete team win. Rockcastle is always a great team and great competition every year. This was our second game and it took a little bit to get the bats rolling and piecing things together but my girls have grit and are working to become a team. So many moving parts and trusting the process along the way is what we have this season. They don’t have any give-up in them across the board.
“Danni (Foley) was able to throw a whole game and mixing her pitches and working to keep batters off balance with seven Ks on the night and only giving up two hits,” she added. “Everyone on defense worked to make the plays all over the field. It took us a little bit to get bats rolling, we had some decent shots but Rock made some super plays. Then we were able to bunt Alana Stidham to first and Danni Foley came up huge with a home run to tie the game.
“Then in the bottom of the seventh, Anela Sanders picked up the walk and Makenna Wilson came in to run for her,” Stidham continued. “Apple Terrell also got a walk. Lydia King was able to advance runners on a bunt, and Mikaila Hopkins came up huge with a single, walk-off hit to score Makenna Wilson in the win. We had to work on defense, and we had to piece it together on offense and came away with the 3-2 win. I’m just so proud of these ladies and their fight tonight. Let’s Go Lady Redhounds.”
