SOMERSET — Another slow start didn’t keep Cody Philpot’s Corbin Redhounds from improving to 3-1.
The Redhounds spotted Southwestern a 5-1 lead on Monday before scoring 13 unanswered runs to defeat the Warriors, 14-5.
Led by Cam Estep’s one-hit, three-RBI effort, Corbin scored in sixth of the seven innings played.
Lucas Tarvin went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Clay Botner delivered a hit and two RBI. Cooper McCauley had two hits, an RBI, and scored twice while Dallas Merida also had a run-scoring hit.
“We overcame another slow start,” Philpot said. “We’ve got to eliminate that bad inning if we’re going to be successful. Tarvin and Abner threw well and we had a lot of different contributors offensively to pull us through.”
Tarvin tossed five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out two batters. Ethan Abner pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits or no runs while fanning three strikeouts.
