Knox Central puts an end to Lynn Camp’s season with 83-38 win

BARBOURVILLE — Mitchell Madden’s Knox Central Panthers find themselves heading back to the 13th Region Tournament after securing their spot on Tuesday with an 83-38 win over Lynn Camp.

The Panthers (22-6) will advance to Friday’s district title game while the Wildcats finish the season with a 7-22 record.

“Great win for us tonight locking us a spot in the 13th Region,” Madden said. “I’m very proud of my team for their efforts tonight. We will get back in the gym tomorrow and prepare for Friday’s huge game.”

Knox Central came out red-hot as seven players scored during the first quarter, helping their team take a commanding 27-10 lead.

Lynn Camp continued to struggle on offense in the second quarter, getting outscored, 23-12, while the Wildcats found themselves trailing, 50-22, at halftime.

The Panthers put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring Dinky Phipps’ squad, 23-8, to take a 73-30 cushion into the fourth quarter.

Grayson Burton led Knox Central with 18 points while Evan Hubbard tossed in 16 points. Hayden Melton scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds while Evan Taylor finished with 10 points.

Ethen Chafin led Lynn Camp with 10 points while Jared King added seven points.
