Lady Jaguars secure 49th District’s top seed with win over Jackson County 

LONDON — North Laurel rebounded in a fine way on Friday, recovering from a loss to South Laurel just a day before to clinch the top seed in the 49th District with a 50-23 win over Jackson County.

The Lady Jaguars (20-2 overall, 4-0 vs. 49th District opponents) held the Lady Generals (10-11, 1-2) to their lowest point total of the season while moving their win streak to 52 games against district opponents.

Senior Brooke Nichelson led the charge with 17 points while Haley Combs scored eight points. Mariella Claybrook, Bella Sizemore, and Emma Carl scored six points apiece.

Abby Gilbert led Jackson County with 10 points while Baylee Berry finished with eight points.

North Laurel led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter before taking control of the game with a 19-6 run in the second quarter while leading 30-13 at halftime.

Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, combining to score 16 points before the Lady Jaguars out the game out of reach with an 11-3 run in the final eight minutes.
