Clay County won 27-25, 16-25, 27-25, 24-26, 15-13 in a back-and-forth district battle.

“Incredible effort from my team tonight throughout the game,” Clay County coach Kendall Deaton Culver said. “We took this win over North Laurel for the first time in 12 years.”

Clay County edged North Laurel 27-25 in the opening set before the Lady Jaguars answered with a 25-16 win in the second. The Lady Tigers regained the advantage with another 27-25 victory in the third, but North Laurel forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 26-24.

The deciding set was just as close, with Clay County finding a way to finish off the match 15-13.

“We struggled to take control of serve receive tonight, but we played with stronger minds on where to place the ball,” Culver said. “I was really proud of the team for continuing to make adjustments when things didn’t go as expected.”

For Clay County, the victory represented the culmination of a goal the Lady Tigers had been chasing for years.

“These girls have wanted this for so long and this has been our goal in mind,” Culver said. “We love a road game district win! Go big Clay!”
