Lady Panthers punch ticket into region tourney with win over Barbourville 

PINEVILLE — Knox Central continued its postseason push Monday, rolling past Barbourville 15-4 in the semifinals of the 51st District Fastpitch Tournament.

The Lady Panthers improved to 9-16 on the season with the victory and advanced after piling up 15 runs on 12 hits in the five-inning victory. 

Knox Central broke the game open early, scoring three runs in the first inning before adding five more in the second and six in the fourth.

Sydney Grubb led the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Blakely Castle added a huge performance in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI while striking out nine in a complete-game victory.

Gabby Pilarski went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Kendall Williamson collected two hits and drove in a run. Abigail Hensley scored three runs and added an RBI while Autumn Bryant and Shelby Smith each drove in runs.

The Lady Panthers also got contributions from Emily Jordan, who scored a run, and Bailey Hubbard, who crossed the plate three times.

Castle allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits while walking one and striking out nine over five innings.

Barbourville finished with seven hits in the loss. Bailee Branstutter went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Lindsey Thomas homered and drove in a run. Makenna Stewart added two hits and an RBI.
