Colonels stay red hot, push win streak to 17 games

LEXINGTON — Dee Parker and Ty Petrey each collected two hits Thursday as No. 2-ranked Whitley County stretched its winning streak to 17 games with a 10-2 victory over Lafayette.

The Colonels improved to 29-2 on the season after breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning.

Parker finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Petrey went 2-for-4 and scored once. Cooper Parman added a double and drove in two runs, and Caden Mountjoy also collected an RBI single for Whitley County.

Luke Hillard doubled and scored twice, Ethan Allen scored twice, and Henry Bowling added two runs as the Colonels continued their dominant late-season stretch.

“Good win tonight for our guys,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “We came out tonight and hit it well. Kip’s stuff was really good tonight. Trey and Clint also came in and pitched well. We’ve got several really good games left before postseason arrives. This team is going to be tested. Go Colonels.”

Whitley County took control early with two runs in the first inning before pushing across six runs in the fourth inning. The Colonels added two more runs in the fifth inning to seal the win.

Kip Allen earned the victory on the mound after allowing five hits and two runs (none earned) while striking out six over four innings. Trey Walton worked the final three innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out three.
