Week-long layoff can’t keep North Laurel from pulling off nine-inning win

MOUNT STERLING — Even with a week-long layoff, Chris Edwards’ North Laurel Lady Jaguars found a way to get a win.

It wasn’t easy, but North Laurel found a way, rallying from a four-run deficit to pull off a 12-6 win in nine innings to improve to 24-2.

“After we played South last Monday, we had a a game rained out, had a team cancel on us along with a previously scheduled day off,” Edwards said. “The girls had prom this weekend and all of that led to us coming out really slow. We only had a few hits late in the game. When we started hitting the ball hard, we started hitting it right at them.”

North Laurel rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning ing to force extra innings.

Both teams scored a run apiece in the eighth inning before the Lady Jaguars broke the game open with a seven-run ninth inning.

“Eventually we squared the ball up but we had to score some late just to force extra innings,” Edwards said. “Finally broke through with a big inning in the ninth to pull away. Offensively, we had bunch of hits, like I said, most of them late or in extra innings. Multiple hits from Emma, Tessa, Lucy, Caylee and Reeselynn. Clutch hits in the seventh to tie the game with two outs. Emma and Presley also had home runs.”

Edwards said he was also pleased with Tessa Monhollen’s pitching effort.

“Tessa again was a warrior tonight,” he said. “She hadn’t pitched in eight days but, like always, she finds a way to keep us in the game. She battled through and got the job done. I can’t say enough good things about how she has been this season. Long ride home tonight and back on the road tomorrow. Go Jags.”
