Colonels hold off South Laurel with 8-7 come from behind win 

WILLIAMSBURG — Number two ranked Whitley County was out on upset alert after falling behind 7-6 in the fifth inning, but managed to scrape across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out an 8-7 win over South Laurel.

The win improved the Colonels to 14-2 overall, and 2-0 in 50th District play while the Cardinals fell to 10-7, and 0-2.

Whitley County scored a run in the first inning but fell behind 2-1 entering the bottom of the third.

The Colonels pushed across four runs in the inning to reclaim a 5-2 edge before South Laurel answered with a five-run fifth inning.

Kip Allen led Whitley County with two hits and three RBI while Henry Bowling and Cooper Parman both drove in a run apiece. The Colonels finished with eight stolen bases.

Kip Allen came in relief and pitched the final two innings to get the win. He allowed two hits, and no runs while striking out three batters.

Wilkelver Gaviria-Zuleta connected with a three-run homer for the Cardinals while Jamison West and Waylon Hensley also drove in runs. Carter Kelley, Hensley, and Jacob Culler each had two hits apiece.
