Lady Cardinals connect with five home runs during 17-1 win over Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG — South Laurel Junior Kenzie Williams turned in a career day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI, and two runs scored during the Lady Cardinals’ 17-1 win over Whitley County.

Lexi Messer dominated at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle, allowing only six hits and no earned runs while striking out eight batters. She went 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI, and one run scored.

Emmie Rice added a home run and an RBI while Ryleigh Bretz delivered a home run and finished with two hits, and two RBI.

“Good to pick up a district win tonight,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Offensively, we were able to hit with a lot of power, and had home runs from Kenzie, Lexi, Ryleigh, and Emmie. Defensively, we didn’t play our best, but Lexi Messer was able to battle and get us out of innings when they had runners on.”

South Laurel (14-4) led 2-1 after two innings of play before scoring five runs in the third inning, two runs in the sixth inning and eight runs in the seventh inning.

Morgan Jackson and Skye Lawson also drove in runs during the win for South Laurel.
