RICHMOND — Aiden Wagers delivered a monster performance at the plate and Silas Hyde handled things on the mound as Clay County rolled to a 14-2 win over Model on Tuesday.
Wagers led the offensive explosion, going 5-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored, including a home run as part of a nine-total-base night. Talan Marcum backed him with a big game of his own, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored.
Aidan Lovett added three hits and two RBI, while Brody Hooker chipped in two hits and three runs scored as Clay County piled up 18 hits as a team.
The Tigers wasted little time getting going, scoring two runs in the first inning and continuing to apply pressure throughout. A four-run fifth inning broke the game open, and Clay County added two more in the sixth before putting it away with a five-run seventh.
On the mound, Hyde picked up the win, tossing six strong innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts. Kaden Grubb closed things out with a scoreless seventh.
