Allen, Hillard Lead Whitley County in 9-0 Shutout of Bell County

PINEVILLE — Behind strong efforts from Ethan Allen on the mound, and Luke Hillard at the plate, Whitley County rolled to a 9-0 shutout win over Bell County during Tuesday’s Class 2A, Section 7 Tournament.

Allen was dominant, tossing four shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six. He was backed by Trey Walton and Eli Powers, who combined to finish off the three-hit shutout.

“Our pitching was really good tonight,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “EJ gave up one hit through four innings. Trey and Eli came in and also threw well. We left too many guys on base. We did hit some balls hard that were outs.”

Hillard had two hits and scored twice to help power the Colonels’ offense.

Whitley County (3-0) broke things open early, scoring three runs in the second inning and five more in the third to take full control.

The Colonels finished with nine runs on five hits, taking advantage of 11 walks and three Bell County miscues.

Kip Allen scored three times while Ty Petrey scored two runs. Dee Parker added a hit and an RBI while scoring once. Caden Mountjoy drove in two runs.

Bell County (2-2) was limited to just three hits with Alex Creech accounting for two of them, including the team’s lone extra-base hit.
