CORBIN — Behind a dominant performance in the circle from Alivia Hoskins and a big swing from Ella Samples, Clay County rolled to a 3-0 win over Corbin on Monday.
Hoskins turned in a stellar effort, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out eight batters.
At the plate, Samples provided the biggest blow with a home run and two hits, driving in a run to help pace the Lady Tigers (2-1).
Clay County struck early, plating two runs in the first inning before adding another in the second which turned out to be more than enough for Hoskins.
Corbin (1-4) managed five hits in the loss, with Mikaila Hopkins, Cami Price, Kylie Sanders, Olivia Anderson, and Sawyer Stamper each collecting a hit. Price also drew three walks and added a stolen base.
After the Lady Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, Corbin’s pitching settled in. Macie Santos was strong in relief, allowing just one hit over 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out four.
