Dragons Rally Late, Edge Pike County Central to Even Record

PIKEVILLE — Harlan used a late surge to break a tie and pick up a hard-fought 3-2 win over Pike County Central on Saturday.

The Green Dragons (1-1) struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Pike County Central answered and eventually took a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth.

That’s when Harlan delivered.

The Dragons pushed across two runs in the fifth inning to regain the lead, and the pitching staff made it stand the rest of the way.

Brody Owens led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Baylor Varner added two hits and scored a run from the leadoff spot. Eli Freyer chipped in with a hit and an RBI, and Landon Myers delivered the big blow with a two-RBI hit that proved to be the difference.

On the mound, Owens got the start, working three innings while allowing just one hit and one run. Jake Brewer picked up the win in relief, striking out two, and Freyer closed things out to secure the victory.
