Young Panthers Make Early Statement with 26-7 win over Harlan

HARLAN — The Knox Central Panthers picked up a huge win over No. 4-ranked Harlan on Thursday, rolling to a 26-7 victory.

Knox Central pounded out 21 hits and scored in six of seven innings while handing one of the 13th Region’s top-ranked teams a convincing early-season loss.

“Proud of our kids tonight,” Knox Central coach Mike Bright said. “Our pitching was good tonight for early season we were able to use five different arms Trevor smith got the win and also hit a grand slam. I felt like we had a very good approach at the plate and did a very nice job hitting with runners in scoring position. Always good to start the season with a win.”

Trevor Smith led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-5 with five RBI and a home run. Hayden Melton added three hits and four RBI while Easton Ramsey finished with three hits and scored three runs. Brady Engle added two hits and two RBI, and Jathan Collins chipped in two hits and three RBI.

Jonathan Hobbs scored three runs and drove in three more for Knox Central, while Matthew Powenski crossed the plate four times and delivered two hits, and three RBI.

Tate Marcum finished perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, and a run scored. Nate Miller was 2-for-2 with two RBI, and two runs scored.
