Redhounds Roll Past No. 2 Bell County, Improve to 2-0

CORBIN — The Corbin Redhounds baseball are making an early-season statement.

Behind a strong offensive showing, Corbin knocked off Bell County Bobcats baseball 17-7 Thursday at home, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Entering the season as the 13th Region’s No. 3 ranked team, the Redhounds wasted little time against a Bell County squad that entered the game ranked No. 2.

“We put a lot of guys out there tonight,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “They all found a way to contribute. Levi, Cam and Trey really carried the load for us offensively tonight, hit the ball really well and took what they gave them. Mal threw well and set the tone for us on the mound and then the rest of the guys did what we needed to finish it off.”

Corbin set the tone early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings before breaking things open with a four-run third and four-run fourth inning.

The Redhounds finished with 17 runs on eight hits while capitalizing on 14 walks to keep constant pressure on the Bobcats.

Trey Person delivered the biggest blow of the night, going 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, including a pair of doubles to lead the offensive surge.

Cam Estep came up big, too, scoring four runs while driving in three and adding a triple.

Levi Brock chipped in two hits and scored once while Clay Botner and Landon Walters each crossed the plate twice.

On the mound, Malachi Zachery earned the win, allowing two runs over three innings while striking out two.

Corbin’s pitching staff combined to limit damage despite Bell County collecting 12 hits.

Bell County stayed within striking distance early, scoring in four of the first five innings, but Corbin’s offensive depth proved too much to overcome.
