HARLAN — Whitley County held a slim 43-42 edge entering the fourth quarter of Monday’s game against Harlan, and did just enough to pull off a 62-58 victory.
Jaylee Cox scored seven points in the final eight minutes while Maddy Hopkins added six points as the Lady Colonels secured the four-point victory while evening their record to 11-11.
“It was good to come away with a win on the road,” Whitley County coach Ronnie Collier said. “It was a very physical game and it took us awhile to adjust. Harlan shot the ball extremely well, but we weren’t good defensively, either. Maddy had a huge game again with 32 points and 11 rebounds, and four assists. Jaylee came up big in fourth quarter by scoring seven of her 11 points when the game was on the line. I love how our team has learned to keep battling through adversity. We are a long way from where we want to be, but I love my team and we will continue to improve. Go Colonels.”Hopkins led the way for Whitley County with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists while Cox added 11 points. Jonna Rice finished with nine points. Cheyanne Rhymer led Harlan (7-15) with 21 points while Peyshaunce Wynn added 19 points, and Addison Campbell scored nine points.
