Henry Clay stunned Bell County at the buzzer Saturday, using a last-second halfcourt shot from Jack Hemenway to pull out a 68-66 win in Lexington.
The Bobcats had battled all night and were in position late, but Hemenway’s desperation heave from beyond midcourt dropped as time expired, sending the Blue Devils home with the dramatic victory.
Blake Burnett had a big offensive night for Bell County, pouring in 32 points while knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and going 4-for-5 at the line. Ethan Buell added 16 points, and Braxton Ferguson chipped in nine.
Bell County shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and led 18-12 after the first quarter, but Henry Clay stayed within striking distance and turned the game into a back-and-forth battle in the second half.
Jackson Stephan led the Blue Devils with 24 points, while Richard Goatley also scored 24. Henry Clay knocked down 13 3-pointers as a team and shot 55 percent in the second half to stay close.
