FORT THOMAS — No. 11 South Laurel got back to its winning ways on Saturday, slipping past Highlands, 49-48.
Skeeter Mabe came up clutch, knocking down two free throws with seven seconds left to give the Lady Cardinals (17-6) the win. She finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Maci Messer had 13 points and Callie Jones finished with eight points.
“Good win on the road after a long bus trip, makes the trip back happier,” South Laurel coach Todd Windlan said. “Super-proud of the fight and grit we should throughout the game.
Got off to a great start and Highlands would just not go away. They came in shooting 30 percent as a team and made 10 3s today, so we took their best shot and another quality opponent to help prepare us for tournament. We have to do a better job rebounding and following the scout. Lady Cards on the road Monday at Pineville for a 13th Region game. Go Cards.”
