CORBIN — Both Bell County and Corbin battled things out during Thursday’s 13th Region matchup.
The Bobcats (17-4) built a 24-10 lead in the first quarter while holding off a Redhounds (8-10) comeback attempt, winning, 72-60.
Blake Burnett led Bell County with 20 points while Jacob Thomas hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Braxton Ferguson hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points while Ethan Buell added 11 points.
“We came out of the gate and played a great first quarter, then turned around and probably had our of the worst quarter of the season,” Bell County coach Brad Sizemore said. “We had several guys get in foul trouble and went a long period of time without scoring.
“With that said I was super proud of our guys on how they came out in the second and responded,” he added. “We picked up our defense full court and was able to get going to the rim in transition and Jaxon Thomas got hot from the three and we was able to push the lead on out. Anytime you go on the road to Corbin and are able to win it’s a big deal.”
Eli Pietrowski led Corbin with 23 points while Evan Ellis added 16 points.
“Stretches of really good play and stretches of really poor play,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said of his team’s loss. “We showed why we could turn it on late in the season and win it all, but all showed redundant areas of play that have cost us game this year.
“We will continue to work on decreasing those negative areas and round into the team we know we can be,” he added. “Proud of our effort and attitude. Eli continues to play at a very high level. He was a warrior for us tonight.”
