LONDON — South Laurel turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season during Saturday’s Roy Bowling Classic.
The No. 13 ranked Lady Cardinals (14-6) limited Wayne County to only nine field goals during their 60-26 win.
“We got off to a very good start leading 18-5 after first quarter,” South Laurel coach Tod Windlan said. “Our defensive intensity was good and moved the ball well. We missed a lot of good shots in second quarter and only scored five points but came out of the locker room and played very well on both ends.”
Callie Jones led the way for South Laurel, scoring 19 points while Kenzie Fannin came off the bench to score 12 points. Maci Messer added 12 points while Skeeter Mabe scored seven points.”
“Proud of our effort tonight and wanted to play well when we Roy Bowling in this Classic,” Windlan said. “Our bench had 22 points tonight. We play Williamsburg in a 50th District game Tuesday at South Laurel. Go Cards.”
