South Laurel bounces back with win over Russell County in Raymond Reed Classic

LONDON — South Laurel responded with a strong performance Saturday, defeating Russell County 71-52 at the Raymond Reed Classic to improve to 8-7 on the season.

The Cardinals set the tone on the defensive end, forcing Russell County into contested shots throughout the night.

Kaden Taylor led South Laurel with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Brayden Cassidy followed with 14 points while Kaiden McQueen and Blaine Baker each added 10 points. Harrison Brown finished with nine points as the Cardinals placed four players in double figures.

“Proud of how we bounced back from last night,” he said. “Our guys really focused in defensively and made sure that we made them take contested shots. They are a hard team to defend because they shoot it so well. Offensively, we were more patient and our shot selection was a lot better.”
