CORBIN — Jackson County opened play in the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic Tournament with a decisive 68–27 win over Williamsburg on Saturday.
The victory improved the Lady Generals to 3–8 on the season, while Williamsburg fell to 3–4 in its first game since Dec. 20.
Jackson County set the tone early, racing out to a 19–4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Generals continued to control the game defensively, taking a 31–10 advantage into halftime and stretching the margin to 43–18 entering the fourth quarter.
Sophia Martinez led Jackson County with 15 points, while Kyler Martin followed closely with 14. Rylee Bowman added eight points as the Lady Generals showcased balanced scoring throughout the lineup.
Williamsburg was led by Braylee Evans with 14 points, while Ellie Breeding finished with six.
Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas acknowledged the tough outing but remained focused on the bigger picture.
“This isn’t who we are, but it is where we are today,” she said. “We’ve had some challenges with sickness and too much time out of the gym, and it showed. That said, we’ll refocus, recommit, and get back to who we know we can be.
“There were positives to build on as well,” Douglas added. “I was especially pleased with Braylee shooting 6-for-7 from the free-throw line — an area we’ve been working hard to improve. Progress doesn’t always show up everywhere at once, but it is happening. We’ll learn from this, get healthier, and keep getting better.”
