Jaguars start fast, but eventually fall to Daviess County, 68-47

LEXINGTON — North Laurel hung tough before falling 68-47 to Daviess County during the semifinals of the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic on Monday.

“We really wanted to get in the championship game tomorrow,” North Laurel coach Nate Valentine said. “We just couldn’t find a way to get stops and then we had too many droughts on the offensive end. This was a really tough stretch for us in the month of December. We’ve played seven of the top 25 teams and had one home game. We learned a lot about our team and found things we need to get better at. Our guys have have been thru this and i know they can handle it. We will get back to work tomorrow.”

The Jaguars only trailed, 22-21, after the first quarter as Corey Cunagin scored all 10 of his points during the period while Kaiden Allen hit two 3s and scored eight points.

But offensive struggles settled in for the Jaguars the remainder of the game.

North Laurel trailed 33-26 at halftime and 54-35 entering the fourth quarter. The Jaguars were outscored, 46-26 during the final three quarters.

Allen led North Laurel with 20 points while hitting four 3-pointers. Cunagin added 10 points while Reece Davidson was held to eight points.
