BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central wasted little time pulling away Tuesday night as the Lady Panthers rolled to a 93-43 victory over 51st District rival Barbourville.
Shelbie Mills set the tone early, knocking down all six 3-pointers in the opening quarter as Knox Central raced out to a commanding 33-10 lead.
Mills scored 18 of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter alone, giving the Lady Panthers complete control from the opening tip.
Knox Central continued to build on the lead throughout the first half, taking a 57-24 advantage into the locker room. The margin only grew in the second half as the Lady Panthers led 77-32 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Panthers’ depth was on full display, with 10 different players finding the scoring column. Kaylei Gambrel-Garrison added 13 points while hitting three 3-pointers, and Mackenzie Hensley chipped in 10 points.
Knox Central finished the night with 12 made 3-pointers and consistently pushed the tempo on both ends of the floor.
For Barbourville, Marleigh Martin led the way with 13 points, while Layla Brock added 10.
With the win, Knox Central improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in 51st District play. Barbourville falls to 2-1 overall and 0-2 in district action.
