Lady Tigers dominate Perry Central, advance to WYMT semifinals

HINDMAN — The Clay County Lady Tigers cruised into semifinal action of the WYMT Mountain Classic with a commanding 68-24 victory over Perry Central on Friday.

Clay County jumped out quickly, building a 21-5 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 43-14 by halftime. The Lady Tigers continued to control the game defensively, leading 56-29 at the end of the third quarter before closing out the win.

With the victory, Clay County becomes one of three 13th Region teams to advance to the WYMT Mountain Classic semifinals, joining Knox Central and North Laurel.

Clay County shot 29-of-71 from the floor, including 7-of-22 from 3-point range. The Lady Tigers also dominated the glass, outrebounding Perry Central 42-27, while forcing 36 turnovers.

Defensively, Clay limited Perry Central to just 9-of-34 shooting from the field and 2-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Carly Fultz led Clay County with a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Sizemore added 13 points and three steals, while Maci White chipped in eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Kenzie Grubb scored eight points and recorded six steals, while Madison Pendland also finished with six steals.

Clay County coach Gemma Gray was pleased with her team’s overall performance.

“I’m extremely proud of our effort tonight,” she said. “We came out ready to play and played with heart. We shot much better tonight and look forward to playing Hazard on Saturday.”
