PINEVILLE — Michael Jones’ Clay County Tigers showed why they’re considered as one of the top teams in the 13th Region after cruising past Pineville on Tuesday.
The Tigers scored early and often during their season-openening, 82-29, win over the Mountain Lions.
“As a coach you’re never sure how a team will respond going into a new season, especially after losing five seniors,” Jones said. “The main thing is you just want them to play hard, and tonight our effort was tremendous from the tip. It was a good win to start the year off.”
Aiden Wagers scored all 24 of his points in the first half for Clay County while hitting three 3-pointers. Isaiah Bundy added 16 points while Adon Grubb followed with 13 points. Maxton Gray finished with 10 points.
Preston Zachery led Pineville with seven points.
Clay County (1-0) will be back in action Thursday at home against Harlan while Pineville (0-1) will face-off against Franklin County on Saturday.
