Lady Colonels punch ticket to region tourney with win over Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County continued its dominant season Monday night, sweeping Williamsburg, 25-13, 25-12, 25-17, in semifinal action of the 50th District Volleyball Tournament.

The Lady Colonels improved to 31-5 with the victory and will advance to Tuesday’s championship match at 7 p.m.

“This was a great win for us tonight,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. I thought we played well for the most part. We are proud of our girls for coming out focused and ready to play. I was concerned coming into the match as Williamsburg has been playing really well of late.

“We talked about the fact that there was no tomorrow and no region tournament without a win tonight,” he added. “Pleased with how we played and getting to play in next week’s 13th Region Tourney.”

Williamsburg ends its 2025 campaign with a strong 20-15 record.

It was a milestone night for both teams.

Whitley County’s Kyla Ray Collier reached 1,000 career digs, while Williamsburg’s Kylee Nantz notched her 1,000th career assist.

Whitley County controlled the match from start to finish, using crisp passing and strong net play to limit the Lady Yellow Jackets’ offensive rhythm.
