The South Laurel 8th Grade Middle School Lady Cardinals captured the Kentucky State Tournament 8th Grade championship after posting a 3-0 record during tournament play on Sunday.
South Laurel outlasted Yellow Creek in overtime during quarterfinal action with a 34-33 victory before handing Elkhorn a 44-41 win during semifinal play.
The Lady Cardinals captured the state crown with a 37-31 win over Lincoln County.
“We came out strong and had a good lead and held on for a great program win,” Coach Tod Windlan said. “McKenzie Fannin was player of the game and MVP of tournament. Go Cards.”
