Lady Jackets make program history with win over Bell County

PINEVILLE — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets capped off a thrilling comeback to make school history, defeating Bell County in five sets — 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-12 — to notch their first-ever 20-win season.

The milestone victory marked another major step forward for the program under coach Dirk Berta, as the Lady Jackets rallied after dropping the first two sets to storm back and claim the match in dramatic fashion.

“We always enjoy playing Bell County and they always have a great team that is competitive. Coach Fultz does a great job with his players,” he said. “We had a tremendous effort from our entire team. We had multiple players step up tonight and trust themselves, their abilities and their teammates. Very proud of our girls. This is the first season in Williamsburg history with at least 20 wins, with a strength of schedule that has been harder than we’ve ever had. I definitely believe this has prepared us for post season play.

“This program and these players continue to break through that glass ceiling, and for that, I’m very proud. We’re looking forward to the challenge of the 50th District Tournament on Monday. As always, Go Jackets.”
